Nepal's culture dates back to several thousand years, forming a foundation on which subsequent generations have built. Traditional arts of Nepal, include the Hindu, Tibetan Buddhist, and Newari paintings and bronze sculpture as well as also fine textile arts. Nepalese Art is usually associated with Thangkas and religious bronze and silver sculptures. Nepal is also famous for her architecture and temple squares and an unrivalled tradition in metal work and woodcarvings.

In the modern times, after his visit from the British Empire Jung Bahadur launched a parallel movement in the Nepalese arts in the early nineteenth century. A small group of traditional Chitrakar Artists (temple artists) of Nepal. In the early 1950's Lain Singh Bangdel become first Nepali to ever receive formal artistic training at the Ecole National des Beaux Artist in Paris. The first Contemporary Art Gallery in Kathmandu was only established in the late 1960's.

The Nepal Association of Fine Arts (NAFA) was founded by the late king Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev when he was the crown prince in 1965 AD. Siddhartha Art Gallery at Baber Mahal, Kathmandu is a well known place for exhibiting Contemporary Arts of Nepal. There is a fine arts college near Ratna Park of Kathmandu which is famous as Lalitkala Campus.
