Communication in Nepal
Phone call
You can make local and international phone calls from most places in Nepal. The rate varies depending on the country you are calling and the area you are calling from. International lines can sometimes have bad connection and are not always clear.

Post
There is a post office in Kathmandu for sending larger parcels. You need to go to the international post office which is in the same building. The post office is open form 10am to 5am Sunday to Friday.

For larger parcels or cargos there are many cargo and air freight companies in Kathmandu.

Internet
Every nook and corner of Kathmandu, Pokhara, and other major towns have cyber cafes. Kathmandu and pokhara offers a good selection of internet cafes. The rate in Kathmandu is 20 rupees per hour and 30 rupees per hour in Pokhara. The connection is normally good though rarely is it super fast. In more remote areas, large towns will have some form of internet cafes, though the connection can be very slow. On trekking routes in major towns, internet is available but it can cost up to 300 rupees per half hour. Some internet cafes also have fax and photocopy service, though the fax service in Nepal is expensive.However, most of the remote mountain areas do not have internet facilities.  

Media:
Newspapers and Magazines :The major newspapers published in Kathmandu are: The Rising Nepal (Daily) - English, The Kathmandu Post (Daily) - English, Gorkhapatra (Daily) - Nepali, Kantipur (Daily) - Nepali. Besides a number of other local and international newspapers and magazines are also available in the book stalls.

Radio and FM: Radio Nepal broadcast from 5 am until 11 pm and uses short – wave frequencies to reach the remote hill areas. It broadcasts the news in English at 8 pm, 1.05 pm in Kathmandu. In Nepal, now there are several commercial FM stations providing local programming and music in a mixture of Nepali, Hindi and English.

Television: Nepal Television is the oldest and most watched television channel in Nepal. Nepal Television broadcasts in Kathmandu, Pokhara and several Terai towns. The news is broadcasts in English at 8 am and 10 pm.
