Mail Delivery
Despite its bad reputation for delayed service, and sometimes even loss materials on the way, the postal mail service does have its own significance in Nepal. Mail service reaches to some of the most inaccessible areas of the country, and becomes necessary if you’re sending or receiving bulk materials.

Communication to some parts, especially, in the remote mountains is still limited to postal services. There are post offices in every district run by Nepal Government.   However, postal services in Nepal are not reliable for sending valuable materials.

There are two types of mail delivery service from the Post Office: General and Registry. Most of the mails sent on the General category do reach their destination, especially if it’s addressed to a P O Box number inside the Kathmandu valley. However, the Post office does not enjoy any responsibility for the loss of mails in the General category. Making a REGISTRY post make cost you a bit higher, but you’ll get a receipt from the Post Office, as a token of its responsibility.

However, many people complain of the parcel being tampered with, and loss of valuables.

The outbound mails from Nepal generally take three to four weeks to reach their destination.  The mail service for international letters mailed from Kathmandu and Pokhara and some other towns are fairly okay.
