Shivapuri National Park

The Shivapuri National Park is a famous destination for trekking, hiking and recreational activities which offers the unique and natural beauty of Nepal. It is the nearest national park from the capital lying on the north foothills of Kathmandu. It was established as Watershed and Wildlife Reserve in 1976 and was declared a National Park in 2003. The Shivapuri is also one of the major watersheds supplying drinking water to the people of Kathmandu valley. It is also famous for meditation centers in its natural surroundings.

The animals found here include the Sloth Bear, Leopard, Muntjac, Pallas's Cat, Large Indian Civet, Himalayan Yellow Throated Marten, Indian Pangolin, Wild Boar, Goral, Indian Porcupine, and Common Langur etc. It is also a home to 177 species of birds, and 150 species of butterflies. Castanopsis, Pines, Oaks, and Rhododendrons are the dominant vegetation in the park. It consists of 2122 flowering plants with 16 endemic plants. It is the main trekking route to Helambu and Langtang, Gosainkunda which offers the scenic beauty of the Nepal’s Himalaya. Since it is easily accessible from Kathmandu many tourists visit this park. Shivapuri is famous common attraction for short trekking which is easy and pleasing.

For Other Nationals, Rs. 1,000/-
(Note: Entrance fee not required for children under 10 years).

Access:
From Kathmandu it is only 12 kilometers away. Budhanilakantha is the gateway of Shivapuri National Park which is a 15 to 20 minutes drive away from the city. Another entrance point is via Sundarijal which is 30 to 45 minutes drive from Kathmandu.
