Shopping in Nepal
Nepal is famous for various kinds of handicrafts which include hand-knotted woolen carpets, jewelers, pashmina shawls, woolen knitwear, embroidery, Thangkas paintings, wood carvings, metalwork, ceramics and pottery, rice paper and stationery.

There are many shopping centers in Kathmandu such as ABC shopping centre, Bluebird Mall, The Kathmandu Mall, Bhatbhateni Store, China Town shopping centre, Pasupati Plaza, the Super Market at New Road, United World trade center etc. as well as numerous department stores, where a fine collection of imported products and a wide variety of export quality commodities are available.

There are also trekking shops around Thamel that have the best bargain when it comes to outdoor clothing and gears. A pair of Nike or a jar of Givenchy in Kathmandu is probably one of the world's best bargains. Similarly, Singapore shopping centre is also another option for shopping.

Kathmandu has in its stores almost everything found in the world. Pokhara is famous for the Gorkha insignias such as banners, flags and medals and Newari artifacts. Patan and Bhaktapur are famous for their bronze and copper works and have various items on offer. The border towns such as Birgunj, Biratnagar and Janakpur offer cheap electronic items. Most of these electronics items are Chinese, Korean or Japanese make and are cheaper than their German or Japanese originals.

Bargaining is common in most shops and items, unless they explicitly mention the NO BARGAIN notices. Credit cards including American Express, MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted at almost all outlets with a 4% bank levy charge.

However, we advise all travelers to consume the local products as far as possible. By consuming local products, you’re not only making holidays in the Himalayas, but you’re also supporting the local economy and infrastructure.
